Serving West Lancashire
From Skelmersdale, Ormskirk and the villages between them, the trip to Birchwood is motorway almost from end to end. Nothing on it is tolled, and you can park right outside our door when you arrive.
We specialise in BMW and the VAG brands, so Audi, VW, SEAT, Skoda and Cupra. Daniel founded the business in 2012 and it has tuned well over 10,000 vehicles since. Your car is measured on our V-Tech 4WD rolling road before and after its map is written, and you take the printed graph home. Google reviewers rate us 4.9 across 256+ reviews, and you can read them on our customer reviews page.
Drive Times
Road miles and off-peak times from each town centre. M6 and M62 traffic can stretch them at busy times.
Skelmersdale traffic joins the M58 at junction 4 (A5068) or 5 (A577, signed Pimbo and Upholland). Ormskirk, Aughton and Burscough come on at junction 3 off the A570. The M58 runs into the M6 at Orrell (junction 26); from there it is about ten miles south to junction 21A, one junction east along the M62, then off at junction 11 onto the A574 Birchwood Way. Our unit sits roughly a mile from the junction. Rainford lies over the boundary in St Helens borough and can come in along the A580 East Lancs Road instead. Nearer St Helens or Wigan? Those pages describe your route, and car remapping near me lists times from across the North West.
On The Day
Most cars spend 2 to 4 hours with us and go home the same day.
Pick a time online and leave a £50 deposit. The rest is settled when you collect, and moving the date costs nothing with 48 hours' notice.
Nothing is tuned until the car passes a full health check. Then the rollers record its standard power and torque.
We write the file around your exact car and parts, adjusting it under full load while air-fuel ratio, boost and temperature are logged.
Final pulls confirm the gain, a logged drive checks it on real roads, and the printed graph goes home with you.
You can stay for the whole job, with Netflix, free Wi-Fi and drinks in the waiting room, or leave the car and head into Birchwood, where the shopping centre and railway station are close at hand. Before any change we save your factory software, so going back to standard stays an option.

Stage 2 adds £150 to most cars' Stage 1 price and relies on supporting hardware. See every figure on the pricing page, or get the price for your exact model from Check My Car. Paying in full online? Choose Klarna at checkout. There is also 0% finance with Bumper.
Stage 1 Figures
Expected Stage 1 figures from our data; individual cars vary. The selector lower down shows yours.
Two cars we measured on our dyno: a G01 X3 M40d made 324.9 bhp standard and 404.4 bhp after Stage 1 with xHP stage 3, and an 8Y Audi S3 went from 315.0 to 388.0 bhp on Stage 1 alone. The rest of our logged runs are on the dyno results page.
In-House 4WD Dyno
Both axles are loaded at once, so xDrive and Quattro cars are calibrated under the same full load they see on the road.
A typical mobile remap is a stock file matched to the engine code and flashed on your drive in under half an hour, without a single measurement. Ours begins with baseline pulls and finishes with the proof. 4WD rolling roads are thin on the ground around here, which is what makes the trip down the M58 worthwhile. Skelmersdale & Ormskirk FAQs
Roughly 19 miles, or about 30 minutes when the motorways are clear. It is the M58 to Orrell, the M6 south to 21A and one junction of the M62. Up Holland, using M58 junction 5, is nearer 25 minutes.
Ormskirk is 23 miles via the A570 and M58 junction 3, around 35 minutes. Burscough and Aughton share that junction and take 35 to 40. You will not pass a toll on any of them.
No, we are not a mobile service. The calibration is built on our dyno, and a dyno cannot travel, so every car comes to Birchwood. That is how you end up with measured before and after figures instead of a guess.
Whichever suits you. Stage 1 is usually 2 to 4 hours. Stay in the waiting room with drinks, Wi-Fi and Netflix, or drop the keys and spend the time around Birchwood.
In most cases. BMW and Audi models built 2020 to mid-2026 have locked ECUs. A locked BMW is opened on our bench in the same appointment for an extra £100, without adding time. Most Audi and VW Group units are opened here too, which turns the booking into a four-hour slot, but a few bigger engines must be sent off. A BMW or Audi built from June 2026 has a newer lock that cannot currently be opened, so we can't tune those for now.
Most BMW and VAG cars are £449 inc VAT for Stage 1. Gearbox tuning costs £325 or £385, with £125 off when booked alongside the engine. To spread the cost there is 0% finance with Bumper. A £50 deposit holds the date and the remainder is due on collection. Paying in full online? Choose Klarna at checkout.
Ford vans, yes. Transit, Transit Custom, Transit Connect and Tourneo are all £449 for Stage 1, and our data takes the 2.0 EcoBlue Transit Custom to 210 bhp and 520 Nm. We have also had a VW Transporter T6 on the dyno, which climbed from 143.1 to 183.1 bhp.
