The B47 is the 2.0 diesel in every BMW 18d and 20d since it replaced the N47, from the F30 LCI 320d to today’s G60 520d. A 190bhp car comes out at around 230bhp and 500Nm, mapped on our own 4WD dyno.

Front-wheel-drive B47s, such as the F40 118d and 120d, the 2 Series Gran Coupé and Active Tourer, X1 and X2, are tuned too: check your car for its figures. Stage 2 takes most 190bhp cars to around 240bhp and 520Nm: what it needs depends on the car, so ask us.

BMW’s B47 replaced the N47 model by model between 2014 and 2016, starting with the F10 520d and the X3, and it has been the 2.0 diesel in every 18d and 20d since. It belongs to the same modular family as the B48 petrol and the six-cylinder B57 diesel. Most 20d versions are rated at 190bhp and the mild-hybrid G60 520d at 197bhp, but they all land in the same place on Stage 1.

Locked ECUsG-series cars built from around June 2020 leave the factory with an encrypted ECU. We unlock it on our own bench, same day, for £100 on top of your tune. Cars built from June 2026 use a newer lock that can’t be opened yet.

G-series B47? Your ECU is probably locked.

That catches a lot of G20 320d, G22 420d, G30 520d and X3 20d owners, and it is why some places turn these cars away. We unlock it here on the bench rather than posting it off. Drop it in, drive it home the same day.

B47 tuning questions

How much power does a Stage 1 remap add to a B47?

Every 190bhp B47 20d, from an F30 320d to a G30 520d, goes to around 230bhp and 500Nm on Stage 1, and the 197bhp G60 520d lands in the same place. A 150bhp 118d goes to around 190bhp. Our own customer cars: a 420d F32 made 226.6bhp and 494Nm, and a 118d F20 193.7bhp and 423Nm, on our 4WD dyno.

Does my B47 need its ECU unlocking first?

If it was built from around June 2020 onwards, yes. We do it on our own bench the same day, which adds £100 to your tune. Cars built from June 2026 use a newer lock that can’t be opened yet. Check your reg and we will tell you.

Is my 20d an N47 or a B47?

BMW replaced the N47 with the B47 model by model between 2014 and 2016, so the build date matters. Every G-series 20d is a B47. Put your reg into our checker and it will tell you which engine you have and what it makes.

Do you tune the front-wheel-drive B47 cars?

Yes: the F40 118d and 120d, the 2 Series Gran Coupé and Active Tourer, the X1 and the X2. Check your car for its figures and price.

What does gearbox tuning add on top?

On a ZF8 automatic the shift maps were written for standard torque, so once the engine makes more they become the weak link. xHP rewrites them: quicker shifts, less hesitation and a raised torque limit. It is £325 on F-series cars and £385 on G-series.

Will it affect my warranty or insurance?

A remap is a modification, so you need to declare it to your insurer, and it can affect a remaining manufacturer warranty. We save your original file before we touch anything, so the car can go back to standard whenever you need.
