Why Chester Drivers Come To Our Dyno

A driveway remap closer to home is quicker to arrange, but it can't give you a measured result. We read your ECU, write the calibration for your exact engine, then put the car on our rolling road so you see what it made before and after, on paper.

The rollers load all four wheels, so xDrive and Quattro cars are mapped under genuine load rather than estimated. Most locked BMW and Audi ECUs can be opened on our bench in the same appointment, and your original file is kept, so the tune can always be reversed.

The Route From Chester

How To Get Here From Chester

Roughly 30 miles, mostly motorway, with no tolls and no clean air charge.

From the city centre, head out along the A56 Hoole Road to junction 12 of the M53. Follow the M53 north for about two miles onto the M56 east and stay on it as far as the M6. Leave the M6 northbound at junction 21 and take the B5210, then the A574, into Birchwood.

A few sat navs prefer to carry on to junction 21A and use the M62 as far as junction 11. That adds a few miles but very little time. Allow extra in the rush hour.

Allow 2 to 4 hours once you arrive. Stage 1 is normally finished the same day.

Choose a slot online and secure it with a £50 deposit, taken off your final bill. Need to move it? Free with 48 hours' notice.

Health Check

We look the car over and record a baseline on the dyno before touching anything. Only a healthy car gets tuned.

Calibrate

We write the calibration for your engine, then fine-tune it while logging air-fuel ratio, boost and temperatures under full load.

Prove It

Proving runs and a road test, then you drive home to Chester with the before and after dyno sheet.

We own and run a V-Tech 4WD rolling road in Birchwood. Every Chester car is mapped on it, so your gains are measured on your car.

A 3.0 diesel making close to 800 Nm needs its fuelling and temperatures watched at full load, and an xDrive car needs all four wheels driven to be loaded properly. Just want a number? We also offer dyno power runs on their own.

Why We Don't Come To You In Chester

Can we remap your car at home in Chester? No, and that is a deliberate choice.

A Driveway Remap

Typically an off-the-shelf file matched to your engine code and flashed at the kerbside. Fast and often cheaper, yet nothing is measured, and a locked BMW or Audi ECU built 2020 to mid-2026 is off the table.

A Remap On Our Dyno

We record a baseline, write the map for your car, log it at full load and finish with proving runs. Locked ECUs are opened on our bench, and the printout goes home with you.

What It Costs From Chester

For most BMW and VAG cars, including the 640d, X5 40d and Q5 above, a Stage 1 custom dyno tune costs £449 inc VAT. The 340i, as a B58, is £599, and BMW M and Audi RS models are priced higher. The health check and dyno printout come with every tune.

Gearbox software costs £325 or £385 by model, and you save £125 when engine and gearbox are booked as one job. Your slot is held with a £50 deposit, and you settle the rest on the day by card or cash. Paying in full online instead? Choose Klarna at checkout. There is also 0% finance with Bumper. BMW or Audi built 2020 to mid-2026? The ECU is probably locked, and in most cases we can open it during the same visit. Check your reg free or read about ECU unlocking.

Our Workshop, Off M62 Junction 11

You'll find us at Unit 20 Trinity Court, Birchwood, Warrington WA3 6QT. It is two minutes off junction 11 of the M62 and five off junction 21A of the M6, and you can park outside the unit. Visits are by appointment: ring 01925 819002 or book online.

How long does it take to drive from Chester to your workshop?

Expect about 30 miles and 45 to 50 minutes off-peak from the city centre, using the M53, then the M56, then the M6. Hoole is nearer 40 minutes. Peak traffic adds to that, so leave some slack before a morning slot.

Are there tolls or a clean air charge between Chester and Birchwood?

Neither. The motorway route has no tolls, and Chester, the rest of Cheshire West and Chester, and Warrington have no charging Clean Air Zone.

Will you come out and remap my car in Chester?

No, we are not a mobile service. The map is developed and checked on our 4WD dyno, which stays in Birchwood, and that is where your measured before and after figures come from.

Do you cover Ellesmere Port and Deeside?

Yes. Ellesmere Port is about 40 minutes away using the M53 and M56. Over the Welsh border in Flintshire, Saltney is roughly 50 minutes through Chester, and Broughton around 55 minutes via the A55 and M53.

My car was built after 2020. Can it still be remapped?

Usually. Most BMW and Audi models built 2020 to mid-2026 leave the factory with a locked ECU. A BMW is unlocked on our bench for £100 on top of the tune, same day, with no extra time. Audi and other VW Group cars can usually be opened in-house, which stretches it to a 4-hour appointment. A BMW or Audi built from June 2026 can't currently be tuned.

Is it worth doing the gearbox on the same trip?

Since you are already driving over from Chester, doing both in one visit makes sense, and booking them together takes £125 off. xHP for BMW costs £325 or £385 by model, and DSG or S tronic software for VAG costs £325.

Is the price different because I'm coming from Chester?

No. Every price is published on our website, includes VAT and applies to everyone. Most BMW and VAG cars start at £449 for Stage 1, and there are no hidden extras on the day.
