BMW B57 Stage 1 Remap

The B57 is the 3.0 straight-six diesel in every G-series BMW 30d, 40d and M50d. A 30d comes out at around 330bhp and 720–755Nm, a 40d at around 400bhp and 800Nm, mapped on our own 4WD dyno.

Motorway overtakes

Torque is what you feel when you squeeze the throttle at 50mph. With 720–755Nm instead of 620Nm, the B57 30d gathers speed in one long, smooth surge, so overtakes are done sooner and with less fuss.

More pull from low revs means less throttle for the same pace. Around town it feels lighter on its feet, and at motorway speed it simply relaxes.

How much power does a Stage 1 remap add to a B57?

The single-turbo 30d versions (265 to 298bhp) go to around 330bhp and 720 to 755Nm. The twin-turbo 40d, M340d and M440d versions (320 to 352bhp) go to around 400bhp and 800Nm. On our own dyno a 530d made 330.1bhp and 754Nm, a 740d 399.1bhp and 808Nm, and an X3 M40d 404.4bhp and 805Nm.

Which BMWs have the B57?

G-series six-cylinder diesels from 2015 on: the 330d, 430d, 530d, 630d GT, 730d and the X3, X4, X5, X6 and X7 30d; the 540d, 640d GT, 740d, 840d, M340d, M440d and X3, X5, X6 and X7 40d and M40d; and the 2016 to 2020 quad-turbo M50d and M550d. Pick yours above.

Does my B57 need its ECU unlocking?

If it was built from around June 2020, yes. We do it on our own bench the same day for £100 on top of your tune. Cars built from June 2026 use a newer lock that can’t be opened yet.

Is my 30d an N57 or a B57?

An F-series 30d has the older N57 and a G-series 30d has the B57. A reg check on Check My Car tells you which, and our N57 vs B57 guide explains the difference.

Should I tune the gearbox as well?

We recommend it. Our xHP software raises the ZF8’s torque limits and sharpens the shifts. It is £385 on its own, or £709 for engine and gearbox together.

How long does it take?

About two hours for Stage 1, with the gearbox and any ECU unlock done in the same visit.
