Crewe To Birchwood

The Drive, Junction By Junction

No tolls or clean air charges on the way. Times are off-peak, and rush hour on the M6 adds more.

From the middle of Crewe and the east side of town, take the A534 out past Haslington to junction 17 of the M6, then head north for about 20 miles. Junction 21 is the usual exit, with the B5210 and A574 taking you into Birchwood. Staying on to 21A and running one junction east along the M62 adds a few miles but little time, and junction 11 is about a mile from our door.

Shavington, Wybunbury and Willaston, near Nantwich, use the A500 to junction 16. For Wistaston and Willaston, some sat navs prefer Middlewich: the A530 north, then the A54 to junction 18.

How Long Each Job Keeps The Car

A Stage 1 is normally a same-day job.

Stage 1, With Or Without A Gearbox

Allow 2 to 4 hours, depending on the car and anything booked alongside it, such as xHP or DSG gearbox software.

A Locked BMW

A BMW built from around June 2020 to mid-2026 comes with its ECU locked. Our bench unlock happens inside the normal appointment, costs £100 extra and doesn't lengthen the visit.

A Locked Audi Or VW

Unlocking is a separate charge. Done here, it costs £449 with your tune and adds no extra time, so you still drive home that day. Sent away, it costs £399 and the car is with us for 3 to 4 working days, which from Crewe means two trips. A few V6 and V8 engines can only be unlocked that way; ECU unlocking has the details.

Stay in the waiting area with free Wi-Fi, hot and cold drinks and Netflix, or leave the car and head into Birchwood, where the shopping centre and station are close by. Saturday appointments are available, and a booking can be moved free with 48 hours' notice.

Measured on our own dyno, a BMW 118d F20 made 193.7 bhp, up from 150.3, on Stage 1, and a Mk7.5 Golf GTD went from 188.9 to 230.4 bhp with Stage 1 and a DSG calibration. Each is one car, and yours may differ.

What A Crewe Remap Costs

Stage 1 is £449 inc VAT for most BMW and VW Group cars, including all five above. B58 petrols such as the M140i and M340i, and BMW M cars, start at £599; every figure is on the pricing page.

Gearbox software costs £325 for a VAG DSG or S tronic, or for xHP on most E and F series BMWs. xHP on G series cars, M cars, the X1 (F48) and 2 Series Tourers is £385. Booking engine and gearbox for the same visit takes £125 off.

A £50 deposit holds your slot and the rest is paid on the day by card or cash. 0% finance with Bumper is available. Paying in full online? Choose Klarna at checkout.

The workshop is 20 Trinity Ct, Birchwood, Risley, Warrington WA3 6QT, with parking outside. Coming off the M62 at junction 11, it is a two-minute drive. Visits are by appointment: call 01925 819002, book online or check your car's figures first.

How far is your workshop from Crewe?

About 30 to 34 miles from central Crewe, around 50 minutes off-peak via the A534 and the M6 from junction 17. Haslington, Crewe Green and Coppenhall are nearer 45 minutes, Wistaston about 55.

Which junction should I use from Shavington or Wybunbury?

Junction 16, via the A500. Allow about 50 minutes from Shavington and 55 from Wybunbury.

Can I leave the car and collect it later the same day?

Yes. A Stage 1 usually takes 2 to 4 hours. We don't offer collection or delivery, so you drop the car at our unit and pick it up there.

Can you remap a brand-new BMW or Audi?

It depends on the build date. One built from June 2026 has a newer ECU lock we have no way to open at present, so tuning it isn't possible for now. Built from around June 2020 to mid-2026, the ECU is locked but can be opened first. That adds £100 on a BMW, and an Audi unlock is a separate charge of £449 with the tune, or £399 sent away. Is there a toll or clean air charge between Crewe and Birchwood?

No. The M6 route has no tolls, and neither Cheshire East nor Warrington has a charging Clean Air Zone.

Do you remap cars at home in Crewe?

No. The map is written and checked on our dyno, so every car comes to Birchwood and leaves with a printed before and after graph.
