BMW X3 M40d: Stage 1 + xHP Stage 3, 404bhp & 805Nm

This BMW X3 M40d came in for our Stage 1 custom dyno tune with an xHP Stage 3 calibration for the ZF 8-speed, the combination that gets the most from BMW’s six-cylinder diesels.

The numbers

It made 324bhp and 686Nm on the baseline run and left making 404bhp and 805Nm:

Over 800Nm in a family SUV

The 3.0 B57 in the M40d is already strong, and with over 800Nm it pulls effortlessly whether you are overtaking, towing or fully loaded on the motorway. xHP Stage 3 lifts the gearbox torque limits and sharpens the shifts, so the 8-speed uses every bit of it.

How it was done

Diagnostics and a health check first, baseline runs on our 4WD linked dyno, then a calibration developed with live data logging and repeated runs before the final verification pulls. No generic files, original software backed up and fully reversible.
