BMW 520d G30: Stage 1 Custom + xHP Stage 3, 230bhp & 503Nm

31 October 2026 · DC Remapping UK

This BMW 520d (G30) came in for our Stage 1 custom dyno tune for the B47 2.0 diesel, with an xHP Stage 3 calibration for its ZF 8-speed automatic, both developed on the same visit. It is the second car this customer has brought to us, and we really appreciate them coming back.

The numbers

On the baseline run it made 187.2bhp and 406Nm. With our calibration and xHP Stage 3 it made 230.1bhp and 503Nm, with 199.9bhp at the wheels. That is 42.9bhp and 97Nm more:

More torque than a G30 525d

BMW’s own G30 525d, with a more powerful version of the same B47 2.0 diesel, makes 500Nm from the factory. Tuned, this 520d made 503Nm on our rollers: it holds over 450Nm from around 2,000 to 3,550rpm and over 480Nm from around 2,100 to 3,100rpm, where the stock run peaked at 406Nm.

Where the gain is

The peak is only part of it. Tuned, this 520d carries 80Nm or more extra torque from around 2,050 to 3,800rpm, 90Nm or more from around 2,150 to 3,550rpm, and close to 100Nm more at around 2,350rpm. Power is up by 35bhp or more from around 2,800rpm to the top of the stock run, and by 40bhp or more from around 3,150 to 4,050rpm. In normal driving that is the part you feel: it pulls harder through the mid-range, holds on for longer and needs fewer downshifts.

The gearbox, tuned with the engine

xHP Stage 3 was flashed into the ZF 8-speed on the same visit. It removes the factory torque limiter and raises line pressure for the extra torque, with quicker shifts in D and harder, faster shifts in Sport and Sport+, so the engine and gearbox are calibrated as one package instead of two separate jobs.

How it was done

Diagnostics and a health check first, then baseline runs on our 4WD linked dyno with live data logging. The engine calibration was built from there with repeated runs, the gearbox was flashed with xHP Stage 3, and the final pulls verified the result. No generic files: a calibration written for this car, proven on our dyno.
