Two of the most common questions we get: will a remap affect my insurance, and will it affect my warranty? Here's the straight answer.
A remap is a modification, and you should always declare it to your insurer. Some are perfectly happy with it (sometimes for little or no extra premium), others less so — it varies by company. The important thing is to tell them: a declared modification is covered, an undeclared one could invalidate a claim. It's a quick phone call and worth doing properly.
If your car is still under manufacturer warranty, a remap can affect cover on related components. Because our maps are fully reversible — we always keep your original file — many owners return the car to standard for dealer visits or before a warranty claim, then have it re-flashed afterwards. If you're under warranty, talk to us and we'll advise.
This is exactly why we keep your stock file on record. Whether it's for insurance peace of mind, a dealer visit, or selling the car, your BMW or VAG can be returned to factory at any time. Nothing about a custom, dyno-proven remap is permanent.
