BMW X5 40d: Custom Dyno Tune + xHP Stage 3

Another N57-powered BMW dialled in properly, and this one earned it. The owner of this BMW X5 40d completed a 6-hour round trip to have us carry out the full engine and gearbox calibration package: a custom dyno tune paired with xHP Stage 3 on the ZF8. The numbers

It arrived producing 298bhp and 610Nm on the baseline run. After our custom calibration and xHP Stage 3, it left delivering a huge 390bhp and 782Nm:

The transformation is exactly what this 3.0 diesel platform can do when it's calibrated correctly: massive mid-range torque, sharper throttle response and effortless acceleration, all while retaining the smooth refinement expected from an X5. It's a 2.2-tonne SUV that now overtakes like something half its size, without losing a shred of its manners.

xHP Stage 3 on the ZF8

With xHP Stage 3 installed, the gearbox becomes significantly sharper and more responsive, quicker shift speeds, optimised torque management and far more decisive gear logic under load, letting the drivetrain deploy the extra 172Nm safely and efficiently.

How it was done

Being an xDrive, all work was carried out live on our V-Tech 4WD linked dyno, with a full health check before tuning and detailed data logging throughout. No generic files. No shortcuts. Original software backed up, fully reversible.
