BMW M550i G30: Twin-ECU Unlock, Stage 1 + xHP Stage 3, 635bhp & 922Nm

13 October 2026 · DC Remapping UK

This 2021 BMW M550i xDrive (G30) came in for our Stage 1 custom dyno tune for its 4.4 twin-turbo V8, with an xHP Stage 3 calibration for its ZF 8-speed gearbox, both developed on the same visit.

Both ECUs unlocked in-house first

The 4.4 V8 runs two ECUs, and on a car built after June 2020 both are locked, so neither can be read or tuned through the OBD port as it comes. We unlocked both in-house on our own bench, saved the original files, then carried straight on with the calibration.

The numbers

On the baseline run it made 514.9bhp and 783Nm. With our calibration and xHP Stage 3 it made 635.4bhp and 922Nm, with 576.4bhp at the wheels, all on standard 95 RON unleaded. That is 120.5bhp and 139Nm more:

More torque than an F90 M5

The gain is not just at the peak. Tuned, this M550i holds over 900Nm from around 2,650 to 4,750rpm, carries more than 100Nm extra from 2,500rpm right to the top, with around 200Nm more between 4,200 and 4,800rpm, and stays above 600bhp from 4,650 to 5,800rpm. For reference, BMW’s F90 M5 makes 750Nm from the factory. xHP Stage 3 lets the 8-speed handle the extra torque properly, with quicker, sharper shifts.

How it was done

Diagnostics and a health check first, then baseline runs on our 4WD linked dyno with live data logging. The engine calibration was built from there with repeated runs, the gearbox was flashed with xHP Stage 3, and the final pulls verified the result. No generic files: a calibration written for this car, proven on our dyno.
