31 October 2026 · DC Remapping UK

This BMW 640d Convertible (F12) came in for our Stage 1 custom dyno tune for the N57 3.0 twin-turbo diesel, with an xHP Stage 3 calibration for its ZF 8-speed automatic, both developed on the same visit.

The numbers

On the baseline run it made 300.9bhp and 608Nm. With our calibration and xHP Stage 3 it made 388.0bhp and 782Nm, with 348.8bhp at the wheels. That is 87.1bhp and 174Nm more:

More torque than a BMW M8

BMW’s M8 and M8 Competition both make 750Nm from the factory. Tuned, this 640d made 782Nm on our rollers, from the same N57 the car left the factory with: it holds over 750Nm from around 2,100 to 3,150rpm and over 700Nm all the way to around 3,750rpm.

Where the gain is

The peak is only part of it. Tuned, this 640d carries 100Nm or more extra torque from around 2,000rpm to the top of the stock run, 150Nm or more from around 2,150rpm, and close to 190Nm more at around 3,400rpm. Power stays above 350bhp from around 3,350rpm, with 80bhp or more over standard from around 3,100rpm to the top of the stock run. In normal driving that is the part you feel: it pulls harder through the mid-range, holds on for longer and needs fewer downshifts.

The gearbox, tuned with the engine

xHP Stage 3 was flashed into the ZF 8-speed on the same visit. It removes the factory torque limiter and raises line pressure for the extra torque, with quicker shifts in D and harder, faster shifts in Sport and Sport+, so the engine and gearbox are calibrated as one package instead of two separate jobs.

How it was done

Diagnostics and a health check first, then baseline runs on our 4WD linked dyno with live data logging. The engine calibration was built from there with repeated runs, the gearbox was flashed with xHP Stage 3, and the final pulls verified the result. No generic files: a calibration written for this car, proven on our dyno.
