BMW 120i F20: Stage 1 Custom Dyno Tune, 264bhp & 413Nm

This 2018 BMW 120i (F20) came in for our Stage 1 custom dyno tune for its B48 2.0 turbo petrol. The customer wanted more mid-range torque as well as extra power when he needs it, as it felt like it was lacking a little, which they often do on these.

The numbers

On the baseline run it made 182.2bhp and 287Nm. With our calibration it made 264.5bhp and 413Nm, with 235.4bhp at the wheels. That is 82.3bhp and 126Nm more:

More power than a factory 125i

Tuned, this 120i holds over 400Nm from around 2,700 to 3,900rpm and over 350Nm all the way from 2,150 to 5,150rpm, with 100Nm or more extra torque from around 2,300rpm right to the top, and it stays above 250bhp from around 4,600rpm to the end of the run. For reference, BMW’s own 125i with the same B48 is rated at 224PS (about 221bhp) and 310Nm.

How it was done

Diagnostics and a health check first, then baseline runs on our 4WD linked dyno with live data logging. The calibration was built from there with repeated runs, and the final pulls verified the result. No generic files: a calibration written for this car, proven on our dyno.
