Understanding AdBlue & SCR

AdBlue is a chemical liquid used in Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) on diesel vehicles. Its purpose is to reduce harmful NOx emissions produced by the combustion process.

The fluid – composed of urea and demineralised water – is injected into the exhaust system just before an SCR catalyst. This triggers a chemical reaction inside the catalyst which converts NOx into harmless nitrogen and water vapour.

AdBlue was introduced by vehicle manufacturers in order to hit the stringent emission targets set out by governmental bodies. It is sometimes referred to as DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid).

The AdBlue and SCR system is a relatively complex creation, with an array of electronic sensors, modules and pumps. These systems can fail and can be expensive to maintain. A vehicle used regularly will consume large amounts of AdBlue, requiring frequent refills.

How AdBlue Delete Works

Our AdBlue delete service electronically disables the AdBlue system, removing all associated dashboard warnings and messages. Here's how we do it.

1
Vehicle Diagnostics
Full diagnostic scan of the vehicle's AdBlue and SCR system to assess the current state, identify any fault codes and determine the correct deletion method for your specific vehicle.
2
ECU Reprogramming
Disabling the AdBlue system is normally completed by reprogramming the engine management system. Some vehicles will require a small electronic unit to be hardwired into the vehicle.
3
Warning Removal
All AdBlue-related dashboard warning lights, messages and countdown timers are fully removed. The vehicle will no longer prompt for AdBlue refills or restrict starting.

Why Delete AdBlue?

The AdBlue and SCR system, while effective at reducing emissions, is one of the most problematic systems on modern diesel vehicles. Failures are common and repair costs can be substantial.

For off-road vehicles, agricultural machinery, plant equipment and competition vehicles where emissions regulations don't apply, removing the AdBlue system entirely is a practical and cost-effective solution.

  • AdBlue pump failure – expensive to replace
  • SCR catalyst contamination or failure
  • NOx sensor faults causing limp mode
  • AdBlue tank heater faults in cold weather
  • Vehicle refusing to start after AdBlue warnings
  • Frequent and costly AdBlue refills
  • Incorrect AdBlue contaminating the diesel tank

Engine management system is reprogrammed to electronically disable the AdBlue and SCR system entirely.
All Warning Lights Removed
Every AdBlue dashboard warning, message and countdown is fully cleared and will not return.
Emulator Fitted If Required
Some vehicles require a small electronic emulator unit hardwired into the vehicle – this is included where necessary.
Post-Work Diagnostic Clear
Full fault code clear carried out after completion to ensure no residual codes remain in any module.
Wide Vehicle Coverage
We cover most diesel platforms including BMW, Audi, Volkswagen, Mercedes, Ford, Vauxhall, Land Rover and more.
Off-Road Use Only
Our AdBlue delete service is sold strictly as an off-road use only product. It is intended for use on vehicles that are not driven on public roads, including agricultural machinery, plant equipment, competition vehicles and off-road use vehicles. What Our Customers Say.

★★★★★

"Recurring AdBlue faults on my 3008 kept putting it into countdown and the dealer wanted a fortune. It runs off-road only now with the whole SCR system gone — no more limp mode, no more warnings. Clean job and a proper printout of what was done."

James R.Peugeot 3008 1.5 BlueHDi
★★★★★

"My Vauxhall's 1.5 kept crystallising the AdBlue injector and dropping into limp mode. DC sorted it properly with a custom file for off-road use — no more warnings, no more downtime."

Mark T.Vauxhall Combo (off-road)
★★★★★

"Professional from start to finish. They explained the off-road-only side of it clearly and honestly, backed up my original file first, and did the work same day. Warning lights gone, engine runs beautifully."

AdBlue Delete Questions

Is deleting AdBlue legal in the UK?+
Removing or disabling the AdBlue (SCR) system on a vehicle used on public roads is not legal in the UK — it's classed as tampering with an emissions system and will fail the MOT. We therefore only carry out AdBlue delete work for vehicles used strictly off-road, in motorsport, on agricultural or plant machinery, or being exported to markets where it's permitted.
Will an AdBlue delete pass an MOT?+
No. Since MOT emissions rules tightened, a vehicle with its AdBlue/SCR system removed or disabled will not pass an MOT for road use. This is why the service is sold for off-road, competition, agricultural and export use only.
Which vehicles can you carry out AdBlue delete on?+
This page covers the 1.5 BlueHDi diesel found in Peugeot, Vauxhall, Citroën and DS — including the 208, 2008, 308, 3008, 5008, 508, Corsa, Astra, Grandland, Mokka, Combo, Partner and Rifter. Every solution is written custom to your exact ECU, never a generic file. Send us your vehicle details and we'll confirm. For AdBlue on other makes, see our main AdBlue Delete page.
Will removing AdBlue harm my engine?+
No — with a properly written calibration the engine runs cleanly without the SCR system, and it removes the risk of the AdBlue-related faults (crystallised injectors, failed pumps, NOx sensor faults) that can leave you stranded. The work is carried out by experienced technicians with your original file kept safe.
Is the AdBlue delete reversible?+
Yes. We read and back up your original ECU file before any work, so the vehicle can be returned to its standard AdBlue configuration at any time.
How much does an AdBlue delete cost and how long does it take?+
The Peugeot & Vauxhall 1.5 BlueHDi AdBlue solution is £295 inc VAT, with a discount available when it's done at the same time as tuning or another delete. Most are completed within a few hours — get in touch with your vehicle details for an exact quote and turnaround.
